Ways to Say ‘I Love You’

Last night, my husband walked through the door after work carrying a bouquet of flowers. Naturally, my first thought was: “Okay..what did you do?

It was just a random Thursday—no anniversary, no special occasion.

But he just grinned and said, “Because, I love you.

I stood there in my pajamas, spatula in hand, halfway through stir-frying bok choy, wondering how I got so lucky.

Now, we’re not the mushiest couple on the block. We show love in practical ways—like picking up each other’s favorite snacks, turning on the heater in a room the other will be hanging out in so it’s already warm, or sending each other weird memes and unhinged reels.

But every now and then, someone brings home flowers and throws the whole emotional balance off—in the best way possible.

Relationships Aren’t Always Fireworks

Sometimes it's folded laundry.

Sometimes it's a spontaneous text to check in.

Sometimes it's making morning coffee just the way the other like it.

Sometimes it's a bunch of flowers handed over with a grin.

The grand gestures are fun, sure. But relationships thrive on the little things. It's the tiny, ridiculous, thoughtful moments—the unexpected gestures that hit the hardest. They remind you that love isn’t always loud, but it’s there: steady, solid, a little goofy, and somehow still growing.

Love doesn’t need to be extravagant to be meaningful. It’s about how often we make the effort to show we care—the consistent showing up for one another, the everyday attentiveness, and the quiet gestures of affection that build a lasting foundation.

So yes, he brought me flowers!

And no, he wasn’t in trouble (this time).

He just thought of me. And for all the chaos and clutter that make up daily life, that little bunch of flowers reminded me:

This is love, tucked gently into the ordinary.
